Breaking Barriers in Men’s Health: New Prostate and Urology Service Launches in Hereford

Herefordshire has taken a major step forward in men’s health with the launch of an innovative one-stop prostate and urology service at The Wye Clinic in Hereford. The new service was officially opened by the Mayor of Hereford, Cllr Daniel Powell, at a special event attended by local businesses, community members, and invited guests.

Same-Day Diagnosis Without Referral

The one-stop urology service offers same-day diagnostic testing for men’s urological concerns – with no GP referral required. Led by two of the region’s most respected urology consultants, Mr Christian Nayar and Mr Wasim Mahmalji, the service brings expert, hospital-grade care closer to home for patients in Herefordshire.

The team can provide advice, assessment, and treatment for a wide range of issues, including:

  • Prostate health
  • Urinary symptoms
  • Sexual symptoms
  • Urological pain and discomfort

To support this, the clinic is equipped with advanced diagnostic tools, enabling the team to carry out a comprehensive assessment during a single visit. Available tests and procedures include:

  • PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) blood testing
  • Bladder scanning
  • Urine flow rate testing and urinalysis
  • Prostate ultrasound scanning
  • Flexible cystoscopy (a minimally invasive test to examine the bladder and urethra)

This streamlined approach means patients can receive a thorough evaluation and tailored treatment plan without unnecessary delays. Whether you’re experiencing new symptoms or have ongoing concerns, The Wye Clinic team offers sensitive, confidential care tailored to each individual’s needs.

Part of a Growing Centre of Excellence

The new prostate and urology service joins nine other specialist offerings already available at The Wye Clinic. These include cataract and corrective eye surgery, menopause care, dermatology, varicose vein surgery, upper limb orthopaedics, plastic surgery, coil fitting, general surgery, and hepatology.

Together, these services make the clinic a comprehensive hub for private healthcare in Herefordshire, offering patients rapid access to expert treatment across a wide range of specialties, all under one roof.

A Community Effort

At the launch event, members of the Herefordshire Prostate Cancer Support Group shared powerful personal stories about the importance of early detection. Their ongoing work to normalise conversations around prostate health plays a vital role in ensuring patients and their families feel supported, informed, and less alone in their healthcare journeys.

A Milestone for Men’s Health in Herefordshire

The Wye Clinic’s one-stop prostate and urology service represents a significant step forward for men’s health in the county – breaking down barriers that often prevent men from seeking help and making specialist care more accessible than ever.
